The Job Hunt & the Importance of Reaching out to Others

Throughout my career search, I have found that my tendency to try to get things done on my own has actually gone against me when it comes to actually getting the attention I want from the employers I ultimately want to work for.

After two months of rigorously applying to major companies and constantly updating and changing my resume to appeal to specific companies, I found myself with my head in my hands and beginning to feel the sting of rejection. I know I am not the only one to come across these issues as rejection is highly common for recent graduates.

Despite my tendency to take on these issues on my own by burying myself in my laptop and researching answers by myself in my home office, I decided it was time to reach out. I know that there are others like me that tend to isolate themselves, but in the world of today, with social media and networking available at your fingertips, I decided it was time to find some help. Not only have I found amazing career consultants through Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Google+, but I have also been surprised to find that many of my own personal friends and family members know people who are extremely willing to answer any questions or provide insight in regards to connecting with great companies.

Today I will be attending a webinar, "How to Land The Job You Want" - I would not have considered this in the beginning of my job search as a recent graduate, but now that I have reached out to friends, family, and began networking with other HR enthusiasts, I have found that people are there for you and willing and able to lend a hand more than most might believe. So, to all you newly graduated HR professionals, please take my word for it and start reaching out and finding those people who can help you get the information you need to become a successful professional in the field you worked so hard to join.
